Welcome to the Memphis Animal Coalition website.

We are committed to changing the conditions at the Memphis Animal Services Shelter so that fewer animals are euthanized.

Our Mission is stated below and you can see our goals by clicking the link above, or clicking here.

We are also working toward making the shelter less of a drain on the financial resources of the City of Memphis. Specific financial documents can be found under Other Links.

Please read Mac's story and consider adopting an animal at the shelter. If you would like to become involved in our group, please contact us.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Thanks to members of the Anti Cruelty Taskforce (ACT), the 2 men charged with setting a puppy on fire received an increased bond at their July 31 hearing. They will be in jail until their next court date on August 14.

Cindy Sanders, Jackie Johns and Diane McManus attended the hearing for the two men and requested to meet with the prosecutor. Their presence sent a message to the judge that Memphians were outraged.

THANKS very much to these hard-working volunteers! The puppy has been named "Hope" - she is expected to make a full recovery, and she is being treated at a private vet clinic.

There is an online petition that can be signed asking for the maximum sentence for this crime: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ACTforHope/ Please sign this petition and forward the link to anyone you think will lend their support.

SAD UPDATE on HOPE:

Our sympathy for this poor dog, thank you Diane for these words:

It is with sorrow that I must tell you that Hope did not survive the
injuries inflicted upon her. It was just too much for her and in spite
of everything that was done to help her, most of her body had been
injured and she then went on to develop pneumonia. The decision was
made to euthanize her which was the most humane thing to do. She is
now free.

As we go about our work, we will carry her in our hearts. She is our
baby girl and no one had the right to do this to her. We will speak
for her in the courtroom until this case is concluded. If there are
others, we will speak for them, as well.

The people that did this will soon see that we loved her, as we love
the other animals in this community, as well as other ones that might
not be able to defend themselves....the children, women who cannot
fight back, the elderly, the handicapped, the homeless.

We will never forget Hope, Bruiser, Mack, Ellie, Mimi and all the
others. It is time for the voice of sanity to drown out the violent
voices that have been raised in this city for too long, now. It is
time to reclaim this city, the beautiful city of Memphis, starting with
KINDNESS TO ANIMALS. Please pray that our work might be successful.
